QQI Levels 5 and 6
QQI Awards at level 4, level 5 and level 6 are classified as Pass, Merit or Distinction where a learner has achieved the standards for the award within the grading criteria. You are required to devise assessment briefs and marking schemes for the collection of work and skills demonstrations. In devising the assessment briefs, care should be taken to ensure that the learner is given the opportunity to show evidence of achievement of ALL the learning outcomes.
Assessment briefs may be designed to allow the learner to make use of a wide range of media in presenting assessment evidence, as appropriate.
When writing your brief you should include the following information:
- The assessment technique to be used
- The percentage weighting of the assessment (QQI Levels 5- 6)
- The range of learning outcomes being assessed
- Clear and unambiguous instructions in plain English to learners on how to complete the task. E.g. demonstrate, outline, explain etc.
- The performance/assessment criteria
- On your brief you need to clearly display the marks allocated as per the Learning Marking Sheet in the Module Descriptor (Levels 4 - 6) If you have a detailed marking scheme you do not need to break the marks down on your brief
- Information regarding presentation of evidence
- Any submission details and deadlines (can be typed onto brief before distribution)
- The date on which the brief was distributed (can be typed onto brief before distribution)
- The brief needs to be signed by the student with a declaration that the work is their own work and that they received feedback on the work submitted.
- Where appropriate please ensure that a word count is evident on your brief.
