Learners will need to be supported through the assessment process. It is the tutor's role to supply clear instructions on what is expected from the candidate in the assessment process. All assessed work should be typed where possible, especially at QQI levels 5 and 6. Under no circumstances should a pencil be used.
Deferral of Work or Extension of Assessment
A student who wishes to defer part or all of their assessment can apply for an extension/ deferral by submitting an application directly to the Quality Officer or applying for an extension/deferral under the Compassionate Consideration policy.

Before Assessment
- Remind learners about assessment activities and deadlines.
- Supply students with detailed briefs and marking schemes with clear instructions as lei the required assessment
- Students should be given feedback on their assessment within an agreed deadline with their tutor.
During Assessment
- Go through the Assessment Brief and answer any questions.
- Go through the structure of the Exam Paper and answer any appropriate questions (a sample exam paper can be beneficial).
- Make sure all learners sign the Exam Register.
- Assist the learner to assemble their Learner Portfolio.
- Clarify when and how learners will get results and feedback.
After Assessment
- Ensure all documentation for the Learner Portfolio is present and signed where applicable.
- Explain the Authentication Process
- Inform them about the Appeals Process
